One of Suez’ hidden gems and football relics are the surviving stands of the now derelict and dilapidated former Monthakhab ground, tucked away in the very heart of the city. In sharp contrast to any other Egyptian football venue, it was an intimate rectangular affair with almost no room to move between the touchlines and the stands, making for an unrivalled atmosphere. If only this ground could be restored to its original shape, it would provide Egypt with an charming icon, on par with the pyramids.
