We continue to Sohaq, a rural stretch where oxen or donkeys turn water wheels or men cranked Archimedian screws.
The city of Sohag is the capital of the Sohag governorate. It is also a major Coptic Christian center for Upper Egypt. There is little here other than the White and Red Monasteries just outside the town.
It is subdivided in 11 (districts) and located in a densely populated agricultural region. Local industries include ginned cotton and silk weaving.
The city boasts three teams, Railways, Sohaq and Nil Sohaq, the latter two playing at Estad Sohaq, its massive floodlights almost scraping the sky.
Estad Sohaq is located in the city centre, its capacity nearing 14000 and almost identical to any other other Egyptian ground on the Nile in Aswan, Naq Hammadi, Minya, Asyut, Beni Suef and Faypum. Carbon copy carbon copied.
