My name is Han, I originate from The Netherlands and I’m a passionate football chroniqueur; not by profession but by nature. In the past, I’ve been covering nationwide amateur and professional football for a local Dutch paper as a part-time correspondent. A major Dutch football weekly has published various of my contributions, dedicated to the Premier League, the origins of English club’s nicknames, their sartorial sagas and their history. I have been corresponding for a British magazine, resulting in various series such as the Dutch ground scene and major football grounds in Egypt.
I have masterminded and developed the official website for El Gouna FC, creating an unrivalled and unprecedented source for Egyptian football on lower levels. Two years ago it’s been neutralized by the club board. One particular Egyptian site hosts my meticulously detailed coverage of lost and existing football grounds in Egypt, but are inadequate in updating. It is therefore time to create my own platform to share with you the Egyptian football scene in general and the fortunes of cinderella club El Gouna FC in particular.
Congratulations on the launch of this remarkable website containing information no where else to be found on the net. I hope you the best of luck in your endeavour!
Thank you Tarek for your kind comments. Documenting a football club the size of El Gouna FC is unprecedented in Egypt. What drives me is that history should be saved for posterity from day one.
hey han

Brilliant website, great resource for Egyptian grounds.
A lot of information you can’t find elsewhere.
Keep up the good work!
hi han,
i am a friend of brb and i will be in egypt this month. found the fixtures of th epremier league but i couldnt find anything lower. could you help me with the 2nd level fixtures for march ???
best wishes from damascus, markus
Markus, please narrow down and specify options. Just when will you be around in Egypt and where exactly? I should be able to produce the fixtures for the second divison in Upper Egypt and Cairo/Delta.
Cheers
hey han.
thanks for your quick reply.
will arrive in egypt at 14th of march, 15th should be a premier league fixture and 19th also. so i have some time on 16th, 17th and 18th. doesnt matter where in egypt. not sure which games i will watch on 15th and 19th but i think asyut vs al ahli on 15th and el gouna vs zamalek on 19th but between i have to go to cairo to get my sudan visa. so if you know any game please inform me asap.
cheers, markus
Markus, none of my fixture lists produce a match on 16, 17 or 18 March 2010 in either division.
Please be prepared that entering Estad Asyut or any other Premier League ground on a matchday for that matter is ‘nicht selbstverständlich’, even if you do have tickets. Security can turn you away for whatever reason. No questions asked.
Cheers
Han
ok thanks.
if you will find something later please inform me.
yes, i know in egypt its a little more chaotic then elswhere. but i think i will be at the stadiums as early as possible (also to take photos of the empty stadium) and then it shouldnt give any problems.
cheers, markus
I’d appreciate, Markus, if you could take photographs to enable me to update the stadium section of this blog, with full acknowledgement. I will forward my private email-address for this purpose.
Cheers
Han
sure i can send you photos. but i think i will do only the grounds in suez in hurghada on this trip. and i think i can send the photos only after WC 2010 when i am back home….
markus
That would be wonderful. Please be prepared that El Gouna’s match vs Zamalek has been switched to Sohaq for security reasons. Should you still want to hit the Hurghada area, it’s highly likely Grand Club will be playing at home.
hi han.
thanks for that information.
the city sohag is about 100 km south of asyut, right ??? thats 500 km from hurghada….. how crazy is this ???
will take the ferry from aqaba to nuweiba tomorrow.
cheers markus
You’d have to travel from Hurghada to Sohaq by public transport or mini taxi, subject to security checks the road is littered with. And you’ll still have no guarantee of entering the ground or the city of Sohaq for that matter, travelling as an individual white man.
Where would you go after the Gouna clash in Sohaq? You couldn’t possibly go back with an Egyptian driver to Hurghada during the night; unless you want to star in an adventurous suicidal mission.
Han
hi.
for my trip the change to sohag isnt bad. will go to luxr by night train tonight, then back on friday to see the game and then further to aswan and sudan. was at suez on monday, very poor attendance, about 700 and watched basketball in cairo last night. spoke to the zamalek officials and they told me its not problem to see the game in sohag.
cheers, markus
Hallo Markus,
Enjoy the game in Sohaq; please let me know the attendance.
Have a safe and sound trip to Aswan and Sudan!
Han
thought it will be 17h15 kickoff and was 14h58 in the stadium. good timing as the game started at 15h00. stadium was full, think aboit 14.000 att. el gouna was better, but zamalek was lucky. always the same with the big teams…..
Best of luck, Markus, with your next African venture in Sudan; probably on your way to South Africa. Han

Han – My name is Jon, And I create graphics for the Football Manager video game series. You have many, many excellent shots of Egyptian football stadiums, and I was hoping to get your permission to use some of them in the free graphics packs that I make. You would be listed as copyright holder of the images, and I would provide a link to your excellent website in all the packs. If you care to, check out my groups website, http://www.fm-view.com – look under “graphics” then backgrounds to see my work.
Thanks in advance for your consideration,
minneapolisJon
Dear John,
I need to know if my shots can be isolated from the background graphics to create unblurred and un-disrupted original copyright images for personal gain or use.
Han
Hallo Han,
i come from from germany and will enjoy my holiday in Hurghada next week. Do you know the matchdates of El Gouna FC and Grand Hotel FC between the 19th and the 26th may? My information is that El Gouna plays on Saturday 21th may at 16:00. Is this correkt? From Grand Hotel FC i dont find any Fixtures.
Thanks for help.
Patrick Engels
Patrick,
El Gouna FC are home to Smouha Alexandria on Saturday 21 May 2011; kick-off scheduled for 4.00pm. Be there by 2pm.
Grand’s fixtures haven’t been released yet,
When i can expect that Grand will be terminated and on which website i can read it first?
Forget Grand
Re: El Gouna FC; kick-off 4pm
Entrance is free.
There will be 2 stadium bus lines starting simultaneously at
15:15pm to pick up any guests interested in attending the match. One bus line will start from the Ocean View and pass by Ali Pasha, Turtle’s Inn, Captain’s Inn, Fanadir, Mosaique and Sheraton. The second bus line will start at Rihana Resort and pass by Moevenpick, Arena Inn, Steigenberger and Club Med.
Han –
Thanks for the quick reply.
The pictures would be kept in a open folder that the end-user would be able to open, allowing them access to your shots. I have to modify all shots to an aspect ratio of 1600×900 resolution, and if there is quality issues that result from that, I do “touch-up” the image to look it’s best at that resolution.
Anyone who would download it can get to the pictures for personal use, but I doubt if anyone would, as everyone who downloads this uses it for Football Manager (and they can only get it from Football Manager websites). I do put copyright notes in all of my packs, and I do put an encoded copyright on each and every shot if the copyright holder would like me to do so. I would be happy to do so in your case.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns – I am more than happy to answer them.
- Jon
Hello Han!
My name is Alex, I have som questions about egyptian football and about el gouna. Please email me your contacts number.
Alex
Sweden
Hello,
With a friend i’ll come to Egypt for a holiday.
We will stay for 2 weeks in Hurghada from 28th of June until the 12th of July. Both we are Assistent Referee’s in our country (Holland) at the First highest level.
El Gouna is the shortets professional football team for us from Hurghada.
Because we are really like football, we would look for an option to watch an football match in Egypt.
Because we are assistent referee’s in our country, we will follow just the Assistent Referee of those match.
in the period that we will stay at Hurghada, El Gouna will play the games;
03 July home against El Shorta
and
07 July home against Petrojet.
- Is it anyway possible for us to watch one of these two matches in El Gouna?
- How is it possible to get two tickets for a match?
- How much cost a ticket for a match?
- What kind of travel is the best option from Hurghada to El Gouna? (i saw that it wil be almost 40 km)
Hopefully you’ll answer my questions before we are going to Egypt.
For this thime, thanks a lot!
Greetz,
Bart
Bart, you have mail. Han

Good day, Ose.
What an extreme poor introduction. What is your gender, your age, your position, etc. ? This has got to be a prank, really. Please contact the club yourself on a match-day. Thank you. Han
Hi Han,
how wonderfull that I found your page
The ElGounaFC website is in Arabic and the Informationteam in ElGouna couldn`t help me, so now here my question to you:
Is there a schedule when EL Gouna FC will play? I cant find anything on Internet:-(
I am coming to El Gouna from 29.10 – 05.11 and want to surprise my husband with a nice match.
Thanks in advance for helping
ElGounaFan
Barbara
Goedenmiddag,
The fixture list hasn’t been released yet and should be published shortly.
Han
Goedenmiddag Han:-)
just today I received the schedule for the team, so if you like I can send it to you via mail.
Unfortunatly we will not be able to see any match:-( thats really sad, cause I wanted to surprise my husband so much.
Do you know if they have training hours, so we can at least watch them a bit?
Thanks a lot
Barbara
Hello Han,
I’ll be in the first week of January 1.1.2012-08.01.2012 in Hurghada and wanted to ask if you can tell me which football matches will take place during this period in Hurghada and close, (within a radius of about + – 150km) or at all in Egypt! It would be nice to know the mating game, with place and time! Thank you and greetings from Hamburg, Germany
Hello Ole,
Your anticipated stay coincides with the festive Coptic Christmas week. You may wish to track the following useful link.
http://www.goalzz.com/main.aspx?c=7732
Please be alarmed only El Gouna FC and second division Grand Hotel from Hurghada play within a 150km radius.
Hey Han,
then I’ll watch the next 2 weeks time to follow the link to the games! Thank you very much for your very quick answer!
Hi Han,
I am a fan of the Football Manager series, and am creating a pack of kits for the Egyptian Premier League from the 2011/2012 season. Your website is the only one on the internet where I can find images of the team colours for El Gouna.
Thank you very much for hosting and updating this website!
Ben.

Hello Han,
What an interesting website! I will be on holidays in Hurghada between 18 and 25th March 2012. Do you know if El Gouna (the Hurghada Second League Team) will be playing at this time at home?
I would appreciate your email: ….
Kind regards from Germany
Alex
Alex, El Gouna FC play at Egyptian top flight level. Grand Club from Hurghada are second division. Football in Egypt has been suspended until due notice after the Port Said massacre.
